Marti Gorum

Vice President, Specialty Markets (Retired)

During her 38-year career in the hospitality industry, Marti Gorum has held a variety of positions —from hourly, management and staff roles through vice president of specialty business units. She combines her from-the-ground-up roots with finely honed experience to bring a strategic approach to business partnerships. She is the Retired Vice President of Specialty Markets and MWBE Partnerships for Aramark Business Dining.

Professional Experience: Over the past 13 years, Marti worked at Aramark in a variety of roles, including Vice President of Business Development and Strategies, Business Dining. She has overseen $100 million divisions, worked with clients including the US Air Force, grown recruitment and retention strategies, and led new business development teams.

Previously, she worked with HMSHost (formerly Host Marriott Services) as the Minority and Disadvantaged Business Liaison and Program Manager, the Midwest RVP of Operations, and Vice President/Chief Legal Counsel for North American Operations.

Educational Background: Marti holds an associate of arts degree in business management from Oakland County Community College, a BA in political science and sociology from the University of Michigan, and a Juris Doctorate from St. Louis University Law School with an Employment Law Certificate.

Community Involvement: Marti serves on the SHFM Foundation board. She is a member of the Missouri Bar Association, the Women’s Foodservice Forum and the Society for Hospitality and Foodservice Management.

Derek Cafferata

Senior Partner

Recognized as one of the country’s “Top 50 Food Service Operators” by Eat Out magazine, Derek Cafferata is a highly respected consultant and an expert on franchise development and implementation, retail management, international business and strategic planning. He is currently the senior partner at the Business Consulting Group for Exec R US.Com, where he brings more than 25 years of experience in the franchising, food and retailing industries.

Professional Experience: Over his career Derek has consulted with both franchised and non-franchised organizations in the United States and abroad, including Aramark, Avista Capital, Burger King Corporation, DLJ Merchant Bank, 

General Motors, Sodexo Marriot and TCA. He served 28 years with Burger King Corporation in a variety of managerial roles, including as director of franchise operations, in which he coordinated all business, marketing and development plans for 106 franchise groups and 710 restaurants in the Northeast.

Educational Background: Derek has a BSC in business management from the University of London.

Community Involvement: He is a member of the Restaurant Chains Committee of the British Hospitality Association.

Robin Brooks

Former Chief Executive Officer

Brooks Foods

 

Former chair, CEO and majority owner of Brooks Foods, Robin has more than 20 years of experience in mergers and acquisition, debt restructuring, and corporate finance. She also has been recognized for her role as a leader and innovator—winning the Northern Virginia Urban League’s Excellence in Leadership award in 2009 and Ernst & Young’s Virginia Entrepreneur of the Year award in 2001.

Professional Experience: As CEO of Brooks Foods, Robin led its acquisition of the company’s first and second food manufacturing facilities. As a consultant, she has worked with clients that include Nestlé, Pillsbury, Kraft, General Motors, Citibank, First Chicago and Household Bank.

Educational Background: Robin has a BA in economics from Smith College and an MBA in finance and economics from the Kellogg Graduate School of Management at Northwestern University.

Community Involvement: Robin has served as a member of the Committee of 200 Foundation Board. She is a past treasurer and director of the Multicultural Foodservice & Hospitality Alliance, as well as of the Women’s Foodservice Forum, which named her the 2003 Entrepreneur of the Year. She has served on the Board of Advisors for The Commonwealth Institute of South Florida and the SBA National Advisory Council.


 

Matthew Whitcomb

Managing Director

MGG Investment Group

 

Matthew is currently a Managing Director at MGG Investment Group. Mr. Whitcomb has more than 20 years of experience in middlemarket direct lending and leveraged finance.

Professional Experience: Matthew joined MGG Investment Group from TCW Direct Lending (formerly Regiment Capital’s direct lending arm), where from 2005 to 2015 he was a Managing Director responsible for the origination, structuring and monitoring of portfolio investments. 

He began his career in 1994 at Bankers Trust in the Leveraged Finance Group, and worked at both BankBoston and UBS leveraged finance prior to joining Regiment Capital.

Educational Background: Matthew is a graduate of Middlebury College in Middlebury, Vermont, where he graduated cum laude with majors in international economics and Spanish.

Community Involvement: Matthew is involved with a number of activities in the Los Angeles community, ,including L.A.’s Independent School Alliance for Minority Affairs.
